I live in your average mid-sized town. It's not Mayberry, but it's nowhere near a thriving Metropolis either. It's just your run-of-the-mill, Middle America, just like yours town. I lived in New York City for a few years (I know, why'd I ever leave right?) and there are a few differences between the big city and a small town that are unique to the Plus-Sized Princess.
When you live somewhere like New York City, you have access to clothing stores that you can't find anywhere else, cool thrift stores where you can score amazing one-of-a-kind finds and in Brooklyn there was even a plus-size only consignment store where you could buy and sell all those clothes you used to love when it was time to revamp your wardrobe. When you're in a small(er) town, for the most part, you're relegated to mall chain stores and department stores which significantly limits your options. For the average straight sized girl, there's never a shortage of stores to shop in. But for the PSP from a small town like mine, we often only have one or two stores that cater specifically to us and honestly a lot of the time they're full of clothes meant for someone a lot more *ahem* mature. It can get super frustrating going out to shop only to find your options so severely limited.
I've never really been one to buy clothes online because I like to try everything on, but recently I've found myself opened up to a whole new world of online fashion options that I never even knew existed! It's so much fun to finally be able to browse from store to store and be able to shop in other places that cater specifically to the plus sized woman, not just trying to make things work from a straight size store (which also works too sometimes).
My small-town PSPs don't be afraid to take advantage of the myriad of options we have available out there. Just because you may not have the option to go out to the store and buy things in your town, doesn't mean you still don't have access to the fashion world-at-large. We live in the internet age! Log on, scoop them up and be the fiercest girl on the block: plus size, straight size or otherwise!
